Sports licensing giant Fanatics is cutting more than 100 jobs from its commerce division, its largest unit, including workers at its Tampa, Florida, and Easton, Pennsylvania, facilities. The news was first reported by Sports Business Journal (SBJ). The cuts included VPs, directors and managers, says the report, which also stresses that the cuts however represent less than 1 percent of the company’s workforce.
The organizational change was reportedly described by the company as part of its evolution from a merchandise company into a global digital sports platform and its need to cut a small number of positions no longer in line with its strategic priorities. Fanatics hired a new CEO for its commerce division, Andrew Low Ah Kee, in September 2023.
Earlier this year, the company appointed three new executives – Stephen Dowling, Justin Tsai and Valerie Love – to strengthen its commerce division, which is responsible for the design, manufacture and sale of fan merchandise.
