Asics has launched the Blazeblast as a trail entry point for road runners, built on FF Blast Max cushioning and trampoline pod construction from its existing Blast road range. The positioning targets a trail running category that has grown sharply, without requiring a bespoke specialist shoe.

Trail running has often been seen as the preserve of the serious outdoor athlete – technical, demanding and not especially welcoming to beginners. Asics is looking to change that with the launch of its new trail running shoe, the Blazeblast.

The new model aims to deliver on accessibility and enjoyment as much as performance, according to Asics, which could help widen participation in one of the sport’s fastest-growing categories.

From road to trail – without the intimidation factor

How does it make trail running more accessible? By combining responsive cushioning and a “trampoline-inspired ride” with reliable traction and breathability. The shoe’s central technology is Asics’ FF Blast Max cushioning, which works alongside a trampoline pod construction in the forefoot to amplify bounce and create a more energetic toe-off experience.

“As we spoke to consumers, we kept hearing the same thing: They loved the bounce and fun of our road running shoes and wanted that same feeling on the trails,” said Magdalena Gassebner, Global Product Manager for Performance Running Footwear at Asics.

The Asics Blazeblast

A smart extension of a proven range

The Blazeblast doesn’t arrive in a vacuum. The Asics Blast family has a recognised line-up within the running community, built around the qualities of energy return, responsive cushioning and dynamic bounce. As RunDNA.com explains in their overview of the Blast range, each shoe in the family serves a distinct purpose: From easy recovery runs to marathon training and tempo or speed work.

Keeping the new model within the Blast range rather than a new product line is a smart tactic. As is emphasising the versatility of the shoe. Rather than dedicated trail shoes for experienced runners, the Blazeblast is positioned as an entry point – lowering the technical and psychological barrier for road runners curious about the trails but not yet ready to commit to a specialist setup.

The timing couldn’t be better

The timing is well judged. Trail running participation has grown sharply across Europe and North America in recent years, with the category attracting a younger, more lifestyle-oriented demographic alongside its traditional hardcore base. A shoe that bridges the gap between road and trail – approachable in feel, competitive in price – addresses a real gap in the Asics Blast range.

The Blazeblast will be available globally from August 1, 2026, priced at €160.
