Sport 2000 International has debuted its “Home of Expert” multi-category retailer (MCR) stores in Europe, opening locations in Dendermonde, Belgium, and Nordhorn, Germany. This innovative store model merges a generalist’s breadth with specialist expertise, offering diverse sporting goods tailored to local consumer preferences. “Our MCR concept defines new standards in performance-oriented sports retailing,” shared Margit Gosau, CEO of Sport 2000 International. Each store features a product selection focused on popular regional sports, including categories like running, team sports and racket sports.

Adding to this new retail strategy, Gosau announced on LinkedIn last week that Sport 2000 International has rebranded as “Sport 2000 Group International” to better align its operations and goals across borders. This evolution is part of a strategic transformation, enhancing integration and positioning Sport 2000 as a unified entity in the retail space. The update follows a broader plan revealed at the group’s Annual General Assembly last May, where Gosau emphasized the need for “stronger networking” in retail. This shift is supported by an advisory board composed of national organization directors, creating a robust leadership structure that aligns with Sport 2000’s data, digital and brand strategies.

Beyond products, both MCR stores in Dendermonde and Nordhorn actively support regional sports through club sponsorships and community events. By fostering a community-centric atmosphere, Sport 2000 connects with local sports enthusiasts in a way that extends beyond standard retail. Gosau highlighted the role of sports clubs in “promoting social interaction,” helping to reinforce regional ties. This launch is part of a broader expansion, with three more European locations planned by the end of 2025.
