The National Football League (NFL) and Microsoft announced a multiyear extension of their strategic partnership to expand the use of artificial intelligence across the league. The agreement will deploy Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI technologies to enhance real-time decision-making on game days while streamlining operations behind the scenes.

The NFL has already rolled out more than 2,500 Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PCs to clubs, enabling coaches and players to analyze formations, filter plays and identify trends during games. “Enhancing the league is a responsibility we take seriously, and Microsoft has been a trusted sideline technology partner for over a decade,” said Gary Brantley, the NFL’s chief information officer.

Beyond the sidelines, the partnership will apply AI to scouting, injury assessments and game operations, including dashboards that monitor weather delays and technical issues. Clubs will also gain access to AI-powered tools for business functions such as finance, marketing and human resources.

Some teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, are already leveraging Copilot for fan engagement and promotions. The NFL Players Association has adopted Microsoft AI solutions to improve video review processes, aiming to boost both efficiency and player safety.

The league and Microsoft highlighted the partnership as a blueprint for organizational transformation, combining insights and rapid decision-making for both athletic and business performance.
