The letter supports a petition signed by such brands as Nike, Adidas, Saucony, Puma and Crocs.
The Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) has addressed an open letter to US President Donald Trump to ask that its members be exempt from the tariffs. American tariffs are, of course, a hot topic in global economics and the sneaker industry in particular.
Some 76 sneaker brands have signed the letter asking for tariff exemptions, which Trump has said he would consider. The letter says that the tariffs would increase operating costs beyind what the companies and consumers could afford.

It also says that, unlike other industries, footwear products cannot be financed, so any higher prices resulting from the tariffs would be felt immediately by consumers. The letter supports a petition signed by Nike and Adidas as well as Saucony, Puma and Crocs.
The only major player missing from the list is New Balance, which is also the only major brand with a Made in the USA business line – though it accounts for a small percentage of its total sales.
The letter is thorough and emphasizes the brands, consumers, workers and families that depend on the industry’s health.
